A/N: What's up everyone?! This is my first Merlin fic so please be kind!
It is a story that seemed to be around for forever. Growing up everyone has heard of the story of brave and kind King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. They all know of Excalibur and the stone and the Lady of the Lake. They have heard of the star crossed love of chivalrous Sir Lancelot and gentle Queen Guinevere. They have heard of Arthur’s affair with his half sister Morgana and their incestuous bastard child: Mordred. Then they have heard of Merlin: the gentle and wise sorcerer of King Arthur’s Court. He is seen as a grandfather figure. Though this is a story twisted and mangled throughout the ages. This is a story that humans know.
This is not the story that magic knows.
Magic knows everything. The story that the magic knows is quite different indeed.
The story magic knows is one of friendship and destiny. Of two men barely out of boyhood, who hated each at first sight than they fell into friendship and finally love. It is a tale about a slight arrogant prince who wants to please his king. Of magic being outlawed throughout such an inherently magical place where a gentle but powerful servant must hide his amazing gifts and yet save the prince’s life.
The story magic knows is of a beautiful young woman who saw the future with eyes that reflected the sadness of what is yet to be. The story magic knows is of the maidservant that loved dearly and was loved in returned by the Seer. Of a wise and benevolent physician with a magic tongue that protected the servant magician. Of a Druid boy that became the eventual King’s downfall. It is a story of destiny and fate, of light and darkness, of cruelty and passion.
Magic knows this story but underneath that is a much baser story still.
It’s a love story between the Prince that becomes a good and courageous King and servant magician that becomes a gentle and wise but powerful (oh so powerful) Sorcerer to the King. It’s about how their love intertwined them forever.
It’s about how a love so deep can survive even death itself and the eventual rebirth. How even though the King died and the Sorcerer must wait. The Sorcerer has hidden himself in the ruins of a once great kingdom with spells and enchantments that only will let the King’s soul through. It’s about how the Sorcerer slept in a bed made of quartz and diamonds waiting until the time is right. He slept as ages and empires rise and fall. And still so hopelessly in love with his King that he gladly slept through this.
This is the story I must tell.
It’s a love story just as the magic compels me to write it. This time it’s between the reborn King and newly awakened Sorcerer. It’s about navigating through a confusing era and falling in love all over again.
This is the story that the magic compels me to tell.
Just as the magic compels you to read.
So let’s begin shall we?
